Intention is a huge part of making those New Year resolutions stick. Well, intention and commitment. Intention is that inner pull, the feeling we have inside. I'm sure we've all heard someone ask, "do you intend on finishing this?". We did intend on it but sometimes that intention can take a turn. We're creatures of habit, when we change our habit we intend to change it for good but often we start out great and slowly those doubts and excuses creep in and we slip back into old habits. So how do we break up with those pesky old habits once and for all?
Take it one day at a time. Congratulate yourself every chance you get, at every obstacle and every turn, because you're worth it!
The biggest obstacle is our own self doubt. We've all got that little voice in our head telling us all the things we can't do, and all the ways we could fail. But you shouldn't be listening to that little voice of negativity.
in 2009 The University College London studied 96 individuals for 12 weeks and the average time it took for those individuals to break an old habit was 66 days. So don't feel discouraged if 3 weeks isn't enough time to fully absorb a new habit, whatever it is.
Now, back to intention. Every day when we wake up we have an intention, whether we realize it or not. For most people we tend to judge our day to come based upon how we feel when we wake up. It really is rather crazy when you think about that. If you wake up with a crick in your neck from sleeping katty whompus you're more likely to assume your day will be a crappy one simply because you woke up a little off. Imagine if we woke up feeling amazing, or feeling like a million bucks! Would we then assume that our day was going to be fabulous? We should be!
Each night before we go to bed we need to be thinking of the type of day we WANT to have. Imagine exactly what it would look like right down to what you'll have for breakfast, what you'll wear, where you'll go, etc... Hold that and feel the joy and excitement as if you're living it now. When we wake up you can grab those emotions you felt the night before and start bringing them into fruition. Even if you do end up having an off moment where you trip and fall, leave your cell phone at home, or forget your umbrella when it's pouring outside, you'll see it differently because you started the day out in a better mindset.
So what will your intention be for tomorrow? I know mine will be wonderful.
